'Good Morning' Greeting Images (WhatsApp Forward Vernacular)

Also known as Good morning images, Good-morning forwards, Shubh Prabhat images, Imagens de bom dia, Mensagens de bom dia

The ready-made greeting pictures that millions of smartphone users, many of them older and new to the internet, forward to family, friends and groups each morning on WhatsApp, above all in India and Brazil. A stock photo of flowers, a sunrise, birds, a coffee cup, a baby or, in India, the deity of the day sits under a greeting and a blessing, prayer or proverb. The look runs from glittering, crowded pictures to plain photo-and-text and pastel Canva-style cards, with a joking strand beside the devotional one. Sincere, the picture is mostly sent as it comes; the daily gesture is the message.

Use it with care

Many Indian good-morning images carry deities such as Krishna, Shukra Dev or Shani Dev, and many Brazilian ones carry prayers, Bible verses and saints of the day, so treat them as devotional pictures: do not crop, distort or mock a deity or a prayer, or put one on a joke. The senders are mostly older people, often new to smartphones, for whom the daily greeting keeps up family and friendships, so design with them rather than to sneer at 'tiozão do zap' taste. The photographs are usually stock or lifted from other sites and carry template makers' watermarks, so license or shoot your own pictures, and have every Hindi, Portuguese or other line checked by a fluent reader.

01

How it works

  • Fill the frame edge to edge with one photograph of something lovely and harmless, softly lit and often with a blurred background: a dewy rose, a sunrise, a robin or a swan, a steaming coffee cup among flowers, a smiling baby or pet or, in India, a deity matched to the weekday (Shani Dev on a Saturday).
  • Write the greeting large across the picture ('Good Morning', 'Suprabhat', 'Bom dia') in a script, a bold rounded or condensed sans in capitals, or a heavy Devanagari display face, filled white, yellow, red, gold or glitter and lifted off the photograph with an outline, bevel, glow or drop shadow.
  • Add a short blessing, prayer, verse or motivational line in a plainer face, and name the day ('Tenha uma quarta-feira abençoada'), so that every morning needs a fresh picture; keep every word cheerful, since no greeting is ever sad.
  • Sweeten to taste: the plainest pictures carry nothing but photograph, text and watermark and let a rose or a sunrise do the work; the fuller ones add sparkles, hearts, butterflies, flower frames, emoji and animated glitter until hardly any free space is left ('the cuter the better').
  • Or go flat and soft, as many app and Canva cards do: a pastel or plain ground, a rounded quote box signed with the app's handle ('@Silver apps'), a watercolour flower wreath, or a weekday card, type-only ('QUARTOU') or with a script 'Segundouu' beside a cartoon sloth and a morning check-list. Or make it a joke, with a dog in sunglasses, a giraffe blowing gum or a meme cat captioned 'Bom DiA grupo', affectionate rather than ironic.
  • Make one self-contained picture in whatever frame the photograph allows, square, upright or landscape, with the day's name written into the text and a corner or edge left for the maker's watermark or handle, so that it can go out as it comes, or with a name or date added in the app's editor, to every list and group soon after waking.

Smartphone messaging in India, where Google searches for 'Good Morning images' rose tenfold in the five years to January 2018 (the period starts with this WhatsApp phase) and millions of greeting pictures go out on WhatsApp before 8 a.m.; a parallel 'bom dia' image culture runs through Brazilian family WhatsApp groups, apps and Facebook pages. Before WhatsApp, morning greetings already went round as glitter 'scraps' and e-cards on Orkut, among the most visited sites in India and Brazil in 2008: TecMundo (2008) recommended Sparkle Tags to 'desejar um bom dia', and Indian scrap sites offered 'Good Morning' and weekday scraps beside festival glitter graphics

Typefaces

  • Script and calligraphic display fonts for the greeting

('Bom dia', 'Feliz segunda-feira!', 'Segundouu'), and at least as often bold sans capitals, rounded or condensed ('BOM DIA', 'BOM DIA GRUPO!'), filled white, yellow, red, gold, glitter or a gradient and outlined, bevelled or drop-shadowed, in what B News São Paulo (2025) called a font that recalls a greeting card from 1999

  • Devanagari greetings and verses

'सुप्रभात!' in a heavy shadowed display face and Hindi couplets in a plain text face with key words picked out in red, above 'Good Morning' in an outlined non-script display face (WishGoodMorning.com)

  • Condensed capitals or a plain or light sans for the blessing, prayer or quote, white with a shadow, on a tinted band or in a rounded quote box, often naming the day of the week

  • For the joking pictures, meme captions in heavy white letters with a black outline

'Bom DiA grupo', stamped Criar Meme

  • The template app's or website's watermark, handle or address in small type or a round stamp in a corner or along an edge

(WISHGOODMORNING.COM, '@Silver apps', 'AppStars Developers', mensagensprontas.app, megafrases), which with the text TechTudo (2024) found left 'quase não haver espaço livre' on some pictures

  • Weekday deity greetings in India

Mahesh Joshi sends images of Shukra Dev on Fridays and Shani Dev on Saturdays, and 'namaste' greetings on photographs of valleys and flowers with 'synthetic, rubbery surfaces, dripping with freshly-deposited dew' (Outlook, 17 November 2018)

  • Gopal Saini's morning greetings bearing gods' names, with images Outlook called 'neo calendar art', sent to 40–50 people a day

and Kamlesh Tetarwal's daily forward, drafted and designed on his morning walk for nearly 5,000 people in about ten broadcast lists and ten groups, whose text opens with 'Om Sai Ram' in Devanagari between two conch shells and closes with 'Shubh Prabhaat' between bouquet and folded-hands emoji (Outlook, 2018)

  • WishGoodMorning.com, launched in 2015 by Kanwarjot Singh

(WSJ, 2018), with pictures sorted by recipient from boss to mother-in-law and a Hindi section in which Devanagari verses sit over a sunrise, a robin or bare trees above 'Good Morning' or 'सुप्रभात!' in outlined, shadowed display letters, stamped with the site's round watermark (examined October 2026)

  • Frases e Mensagens de Bom Dia

the Brazilian app by Marcos Favero's M3 Apps, which stopped reusing other people's pictures and had a designer make its own in Photoshop and Illustrator, later with translators for users in other countries; three quarters of its users are women. Also the Facebook group 'Lindas mensagens', with 1.3 million members and about 80 good-morning images posted by 7.10 a.m. (TechTudo, 30 October 2024)

  • Canva 'bom dia' templates by Michella de Souza

a content creator from Cabo Frio who earns from customisable Canva templates, mostly for Instagram, takes her references from Pinterest, favours natural landscapes and smiling children and works on the rule 'quanto mais fofinho, melhor' (TechTudo, 2024)

  • TechTudo's gallery of 60 free 'bom dia' images from ten apps (Mayara Aguiar, 2023)

soft-focus stock photographs of a yawning dog, a swan at sunset, coffee cups, roses, daisies and beaches under 'Bom dia!' in script or in bold outlined sans capitals; quote boxes and photographs stamped '@Silver apps' or 'AppStars Developers'; pastel weekday cards, type-only ('QUARTOU') or with a cartoon sloth ('Segundouu'); and jokes such as a dog in sunglasses, a giraffe blowing gum and a meme cat captioned 'Bom DiA grupo'
