Chat Reaction-Sticker Cartooning (LINE)
Also known as LINE sticker illustration, LINE reaction stickers, Messaging sticker cartooning
Cartoon character art made to be sent in chat: one figure performing one reaction, such as thanks, sulking, panic or a greeting, cut out on a transparent ground and sold in sets of a recurring cast. Where kawaii soothes, these sets stage exaggerated, comic emotions, often with a few lettered words, and must read at thumbnail size. It descends from manga cartooning and borrows kawaii roundness only as a base that the reactions then break; the emoji influence is the shared job of a pictorial reply, not a shared look.

01
How it works
- Make each sticker a complete conversational reply: one character, one reaction, readable at a glance.
- Isolate the figure on a transparent ground with a clean outline and a small margin, so it can sit on any chat background.
- Frame close and compact; crop or squash tall bodies so the face and gesture survive at thumbnail size.
- Reuse one recognisable cast across a set, varying pose and expression widely, from affection to embarrassment to rage.
- Exaggerate faces and bodies with comic devices (sweat drops, tears, shaking lines), letting embarrassment or anger break the calm of a cute base; any lettering is a short phrase, and many stickers carry none.

Combine it with
Styles Chat Reaction-Sticker Cartooning (LINE) pairs well with or plays against, from the research. Each is worked out as a combination: which style gives the type, the colours and the forms.
- Kawaii Design Pairs well · Use kawaii roundness for the base character, then let embarrassment or anger break the serenity.
- Korean Webtoon Graphics Pairs well · Both are app-native character cartooning; webtoon sequences scenes, stickers compress a scene into one beat.
- Yami-Kawaii (Sick-Cute) Contrasts · Sick-cute sets dark feeling in pastel; reaction stickers keep the feeling comic and sendable.
- Emoji Pictographic Language Contrasts · Emoji are standardised, encoded pictographs; the shared trait is a pictorial reply, but these are authored, larger character performances.
- CalArts Style (Rounded Cartoon Character Design) Pairs well · Reduced faces and bold soft outlines carry emotion at small sizes, so character designs translate well into stickers and avatars.
